After holding several positions within the library system including Library Administrator, in early 2000, she was appointed as the Director of Libraries of which she holds today; managing five branches of the County library that has its own distinct character and needs. She is an excellent communicator and supporter of the Library Advisory Board and the Friends of the Library. Her excellent people skills allow her to interact with all she comes in contact with in a professional manner. Norma is always looking for ways to enhance the library system whether it is watching out and applying for available grants to expanding the libraries opportunities for kids programs throughout the branches. During the budget reductions last year, the libraries were affected by several reductions with the major one being the closing of the libraries on Mondays. Norma developed her budget well from submission to implementation. Being a huge part of our library system for 25 years, Norma has seen many changes within the system such as providing internet access to the public. Some things just don’t change though. Recently, I learned that they still utilize the Dewey Decimal System even with the advanced computer technology for libraries. Norma is the ultimate Library Director – Monroe County is very lucky to be able to celebrate her 25 years of service to all of us!
