STAFF RECOMMENDATION: F.S. 125.74(1)0)vests the County Administrator the power to
organize the work of County Departments, subject to administrative code developed by the
Administrator and adopted by the Board and to routinely review the departments, administration and
operation of the County and make recommendations regarding reorganization to the Board. The statute
requires that the Board approve the organizational table.
In April, the Board contracted with the District 16 Medical Examiner, Dr. Michael Steckbauer, who
requested to change his status from an independent contractor to a County employee so he and his
assistant would be eligible to participate in the Florida Retirement Service. The resolution formally
approves the addition of the Medical Examiner's Office to the organizational table as a County
Department. Previously, the Medical Examiner's Office was an independent special district that was
financially supported by the County.
