AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval for staff to apply for a grant for transportation stimulus

and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) have received the full review and vetting required by law and
that the infrastructure investment is an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Staff anticipates that ten of the County bridges will require repair and
rehabilitation within the next few years at an estimated cost of approximately $10.5 million for design
and construction. Additional transportation stimulus money is available for eligible projects through a
discretionary grant program. Staff is seeking approval to apply for a grant for $8.4 million to fund 80%
of the work. Gas tax revenue of$2,100,000 will be used as the 20% match.
The application requires that the Mayor execute a certification stating that projects that are funded by
the stimulus grant have been vetted as required by law and are an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars.
