FLORIDA KEYS COUNCIL FOR
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
AWARD TO
C.J. Geotis
Ports Manager of the City Of Marathon, Florida
Beginning in August 2007, the City of Marathon, Florida embarked on a mission to
remove barriers and improve accessibility for citizens with disabilities to the
facilities at the City Marina located on Boot Key Harbor.
To this end, Ports Manager C.J. Geotis and
his
staff developed

The City of Marathon Marina Transition Plan was completed and approved by the
City Council on February 12, 2008 by Resolution 2008-23. Since that time,
identified physical barriers have been removed, an ADA Compliance Coordinator
has been identified, and a designated ADA dinghy dockage area with signage has
been established. Work has also begun to create an ADA accessible boardwalk to
the Marina's thatched roof pavilion and automobile parking spaces are being
redone to meet ADA compliance.
The new City Marina Bath House and Shower Facility has been reengineered to
meet ADA compliance and construction on that building is scheduled to begin in
June of 2008.
We are deeply grateful to Mr. Geotis, his staff, and the City of Marathon for their
efforts to improve access for people with disabilities to one of the premiere jewels of
our beautiful Florida Keys.
