Agenda Item Wording: Approval to purchase Tract AD, Pine Key Acres on Big Pine Key for
conservation.
Item Background: This acquisition is proposed to protect natural resources, protect property rights,
and provide mitigation land.
The subject portion of Pine Key Acres subdivision on Big Pine Key is zoned Suburban Residential and
designated Tier 1. The subject property consists of 1.01 acres of pinelands with some disturbed
conditions. As such, the parcel is too small to meet the two-acre minimum necessary to build a single-
family home as-of-right. Once acquired for conservation the property could serve as mitigation for
development pursuant to the Big Pine Key Habitat Conservation Plan.
The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used for this transaction. The agenda packet
spreadsheet lists the legal description, purchase price, and estimated closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On April 30, 2008 the Land Authority Advisory Committee voted 4/0 to
approve the purchase of this property.
Previous Governing Board Action: The Board has approved the purchase of other conservation
property in this subdivision.
