WHEREAS, Florida is the "Boating Capital of the World; and
WHEREAS, boating is one of the largest recreational activities for the residents of
this community and people from around the world; and
WHEREAS, the protection of life, limb, boats and marine property are the legal and
moral responsibilities of every boater; and
WHEREAS, every year lives are lost, in spite of educational efforts; and
WHEREAS, it is both desirable and necessary to remind all boaters of their
responsibilities and the constant need for safe boating practices and procedures; and.
WHEREAS, to this end, all boaters are asked to continue the spirit of Safe Boating
Week throughout the entire year by wearing a life jacket, taking it boating education
course, getting a Vessel Safety Check, operating their vessels responsibly, safely and
soberly and obeying Coast Guard Regulations.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sonny McCoy, Mayor of Monroe County, Florida, on
behalf of the Monroe County Commission, do hereby proclaim, May 17th through
May 23rd, 2008,
