The funds will proceed from the City of Miami UASI FY 06 Memorandum of Understanding entered in May 11, 2007 (Contract # 07DS-5S-11-23-02- 379) in the amount of $516,277.00; and authorization for the Acting County Administrator to execute any other required documentation in relation to the application process. ITEM BACKGROUND: The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management (DEM), has subgranted the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program, FY 2006, to the City of Miami, it's contiguous counties, Miami -Dade and Monroe, the City of Hialeah, and the Florida. Department of Health, in the amount of $15,980,000.00. This program targets homeland security funding to "high threat" urban areas in order to prevent, respond, and recover from threats or acts of terrorism. Monroe County is receiving $516,277.00 and it breaks down as follows; MCSO $150,000.00, Key West International Airport $160,000.00, MCFR $9,000.00, and MCEM $197,277.00. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: The UASI FY 05 grant was approved in the year 2006, and the UASI FY 06 was approved in May 11, 2007. CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: Line item covering EOC Enhancements was changed and approved by the Urban Area Working Group to reflect $90,000.00 to MCSO for purchase of a cache of radios, and $70,000.00 to MCEMS for purchase of a cache of radios for use by first responders and recovery personnel during any hazardous event or disaster. STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: It is appropriate to approve the purchase of such radios for use by EMS.
