Item Background: This acquisition is proposed to protect natural resources and provide mitigation
land.
Silas Knowles is a "paper' subdivision on Big Pine Key zoned Native Area and designated Tier 1. The
subdivision was never developed and the individual lots are too small to meet the four -acre minimum
necessary to build a single-family home as -of -right. The subject property is a 5,000 square foot lot
consisting of wetland and/or submerged land. There is no vehicular access to the property. Once
acquired for conservation the property could serve as mitigation for development pursuant to the Big
Pine Key Habitat Conservation Plan.
The property owner wishes to donate the property. The agenda packet spreadsheet lists the estimated
closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On January 24, 2008 the Land Authority Advisory Committee voted 4/0
to approve this item.
Previous Governing Board Action: The Board has acquired other properties in this subdivision.
