Item Background: This item is proposed to protect natural resources, provide mitigation land in
support of the Big Pine Key Habitat Conservation Plan, and assist Habitat For Humanity of Key West
and Lower Florida Keys in securing a less environmentally sensitive building site.
The subject property consists of eight Tier 1 parcels totaling 2.9 acres that private parties have donated
to Habitat for Humanity. One of the parcels (Block 3, Lot 5, Palm Villa) is zoned IS and has a ROGO
exemption. Rather than building on this Tier 1 site, Habitat for Humanity proposes to sell all 8 parcels
to the Land Authority and use the proceeds to purchase a less environmentally sensitive site.
The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used for this transaction. The agenda packet
spreadsheet lists the legal description, purchase price, and estimated closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On 7/30/08 the Land Authority Advisory Committee voted 5/0 to
approve this acquisition.
