ITEM BACKGROUND: PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTIOr\: CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAl, COST: BUDGETED: Yes No COST TO COUNTY: SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODLCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTII_ Year APPROVED BY: County Atty _ OMB/Purchasing _ Risk Management._ DOCUMENTATION: Included XX Not Required_~ DISPOSITION: AGENDAITEM#______ Revised 2/05 NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY WHEREAS, the County of Monroe recognizes the importance of giving children permanent, safe and loving families through adoption; and WHEREAS, more than 129,000 children in the United States foster care system are waiting to be adopted; and WHEREAS, more than 30 children in Monroe County are waiting for their adoptions to be finalized; and WHEREAS, to help these children find permanent nurturing families, the local courts of Miami-Dade County on Friday November 14,2008 will finalize the adoptions of children through "Our Kids" of Miami-Dade/Monroe Counties, the lead agency for Wesley House in the Florida Keys, and join other organizations to celebrate all adoptions; and WHEREAS, this effort along with similar celebrations in all 50 states, the District of Colombia and Puerto Rico will offer children the chance to live with stable and loving families and encourage other dedicated individuals to make a powerful difference in the lives of a child through adoption; Now, therefore, I, Mario Di Gennaro, Mayor of Monroe County, Florida, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim November 15,2008 as National Adoption Day in Monroe County, and in doing so, urge all citizens to join in a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of adoption.
