Kent Edwards currently works as an Environmental Administrator for the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP), in the Lower Region Office of the Florida Keys National Marine
Sanctuary, where he has been for the past 2 years. In previous work experience, he has been an
Environmental Manager for 8 years with DEP and Broward County, gaining expertise in natural
resource and water quality aspects of coastal construction and dredging. He also worked for 7 years
as the Chief Chemist for the DEP Southwest District Office in Tampa, where he oversaw the
environmental sampling and analysis activities of more than 70 professional staff, and provided
technical support to all of the DEP regulatory programs. Kent's first position after graduate school,
was with the Pinellas County Utilities Department, where in the period of 4 years, he was promoted
through several positions, starting as a Wellfield Monitoring Specialist, and progressing to being the
Quality Control Officer for the full service Utility Laboratory.
Kent has a Bachelor of Science degree from the Univ. of Georgia (Zoology, 1982), a Master of
Science degree from the Univ. of S. Florida (Zoology, 1988), and a Master of Public Health from the
Univ. of S. Florida (Environmental Health, 1994).
