As previously approved by FDOT, the relocation of the ASOS at the Florida Keys Marathon International Airport is included in Contract G1237. The project was awarded to Pedro Falcon Contractors (PFC) and an Administrative Notice to Proceed was issued to them on 5/5/2023. PFC has submitted the building permit application to Monroe County and is in the process of addressing building department comments. PFC began submittal of shop drawings last week, and it is anticipated the construction schedule will be as follows: • Complete Submittal Review and Approval -July, 2023 • Estimated Procurement of Equipment and Materials (3 Months)—October, 2023 • Estimated Installation of Infrastructure for New ASOS Location (60 Days)—December, 2023 Once the infrastructure is installed at the new ASOS location and is approved by both the FAA and the National Weather Service (NWS),then the existing weather station equipment will be shut down and relocated to the new location and then commissioned. The FAA, however, has a moratorium on impacting their facilities during the months of November, December and through the first week of January, so it will not be possible to relocate the weather station equipment until the second or third week of January, 2024. Once the County receives approval on the schedule to shut down the ASOS in January, the Contractor in cooperation with the FAA and National Weather Service will relocate the weather station equipment to its new location. This work will include relocation of the actual equipment and tower, make the proper connections, and then do the proper testing and commissioning. Once the ASOS if fully commissioned at its' new location the Contractor will then be allowed to demo. the existing ASOS location. Based on the above information and schedule, the MTH would like to request an extension of Contract G1237 through April 30, 2024.
