ITEM BACKGROUND: The Duck Key Security District Advisory Board is recommending the installation of a security camera at the entrance to the residential islands. The video record of vehicular information will assist law enforcement should any unlawful criminal activity occur. The District surveyed the residents in January of 2007 regarding the proposal; results were 70% in favor. The Monroe County Sheriffs Office is very supportive of the video security proposal and has been involved in the process. Initial camera purchase, installation, and on -going monitoring service contract costs will be paid for by revenue generated through the Duck Key Security Taxing District. The results are overwhelmingly in favor of both the camera and the walkway. The Breakdowns of the results are: 601 Surveys Sent, 191 Responded, resulting in a 32% response so far. -7 133 yes to both camera and walkway which is 70% in favor. 9 yes to camera, and no to walkway resulting in a 5% response. 32 no to walkway, and yes to camera resulting in 170/0 response. 11 no to walkway and no to camera resulting in 5% response. 6 returned with no response resulting in 3% response.
