AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval of and Authorization for the County to purchase 100 copies of Microsoft Office 2007 for Workstations and
notebook computers.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Microsoft Office is the office automation package in use by Monroe County that includes Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and Access. This requests the approval to purchase 100 new licenses - 90 for new computers and 10 copies
for Technical Services Support computers.
This item requests the purchase as a separate item for licenses that are transferable - they are not tied to a particular
computer and may be transferred at the County's discretion. Before now, Monroe County has purchased OEM licenses
directly from the hardware vendor, which are not transferable from old computers to new computers.

Microsoft Office is the office automation package in use by Monroe County that includes Microsoft Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and Access. This requests the approval to purchase 100 new licenses - 90 for new
computers and 10 copies for Technical Services Support computers.
This item requests the purchase as a separate item for licenses that are transferable - they are not tied to a
particular computer and may be transferred at the County's discretion. Before now, Monroe County has
purchased OEM licenses directly from the hardware vendor, which are not transferable from old computers
to new computers.
Additionally, this license arrangement allows us to legally install 1 00 copies with a single license key. Our
prior agreement requires a separate license key for every workstation, which is a management complexity
issue.
Office 2007 is the latest and now the only available version of Microsoft Office available. If desired, this
license allows the County to use Windows 2003 as a substitute for a Windows 2007.
Pricing and Procurement
$292.50 per workstation is based on a 100,000 seat enterprise, bid negotiated by the State of Florida and
awarded to SHI exclusively. There is no better pricing available to Monroe County.
