Total Budget for FY 23/24: $286,482; Year to Date Expenditures and Encumbrances: $145,289; Remaining Balance: $141,193; Percentage of budget spent and/or encumbered year-to-date: 50.7% The County Extension Director/Family & Community Development Agent accomplished the following activities: • Alicia and intern Victoria are working with communities designated by FEMA Community Disaster Redevelopment Zones (CDRZ) to show them how to access technical assistance and funding specifically for them. They are working with 13 CDRZ communities in South East Florida under the Climate Navigators project. 2648 • Alicia is continuing work on the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant and the advisory team has identified projects that will be drafted into the Priority Action Plan. This plan will be completed in March 2024. The identified projects include high-priority, near-term emissions reductions. • Alicia presented Preparing for Climate Change; Steps, Strategies, and Methods to 42 nationally recognized Extension specialists, researchers, and agents. This workshop was in preparation for developing a Cooperative Extension Climate Framework in February. • Alicia spoke on the radio about easy New Year's resolutions. The Florida Sea Grant Marine Extension Agent accomplished the following activities: • Shelly presented to over 115 attendees on Florida Keys Water Watch Sponge Restoration Aquaculture at the Florida Sea Grant Symposium. University of Florida leadership was well represented, researchers, students, and faculty at this biannual event in Gainesville. • Shelly is a technical advisor for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve sponge advisory board. They held their inaugural meeting to start planning an EPA-grant funded pilot project to restore sponges in the Bay. Shelly and the FWC were on hand to help with technical considerations on the new methods they are considering and the sponge species to choose. • Shelly assisted Dr. Steven Scyphers' group from the University of South Alabama reach relevant stakeholder groups for interviews at Key West City Hall and other locations related to a NOAA Adaptations Sciences Program grant. The objectives are to research end-users involved in conservation, community planning, and climate adaptation. The group of 6 were in Monroe County for a week to talk to residents and resource managers to understand stakeholder attitudes regarding the benefits, consequences, and trade-offs of coastal flood protection decisions across diverse social and environmental contexts. • The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council communication staff were in Key West where they were scanning historic fishing photos at the Florida Keys Seafood Festival. The Environmental Horticulture Extension Agent accomplished the following activities: • In January, Maria Quirico engaged in various community engagement and education activities. Highlights include the radio interview on US 1 Radio, the plant walk with Master Gardeners, and attending meetings to enhance personal and team effectiveness. Moreover, on January 18th, Maria had a meeting with the Montessori school and the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden to organize the native plant labeling of the Key West City Hall gardens, further strengthening collaborations and initiatives aimed at promoting native plant species and environmental awareness within the local community. Additionally, Maria visited plant clinics to offer support and guidance, underscoring her commitment to horticultural education and outreach. Phone (305) 289-6005 �u Monthly Activity - Fire Rescue ■ Conducted a walkthrough of the Long Key Bridge Rescue Plan for work being performed on the water line under the bridge with the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority. ■ Participated in Securing the Cities (STC) Miami Region Tabletop Exercise related to Preventative Radiological/Nuclear Detection concept operations with Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County fire rescue and police departments. ■ Crew members from Station 11 participated in the Keys to Be the Change Reading Program at the Sugarloaf Elementary School, on Sugarloaf Key. ■ Crew members from Station 13 participated in the Big Pine Athletic Association Opening Day at the Big Pine Community Park. ■ Crewmembers from Station 13 provided a tour and presentation of the facility and apparatus to the iStroll 7-Mile group from the neighboring community. ■ Crew members from Station 13 made a presentation to the attendees of the Parks & Beaches Winter Camp at the Big Pine Community Park. ■ Crew members from Station 13 attended the Reading event at the Big Pine Library with the Big Pine Boys & Girls Club. ■ Crew members from Station 22 provided medical support for those attending the Wounded Warrior Ride,which started at the Key Largo VFW Post 10211 to the Veterans Memorial Beach on the South end of the Seven Mile Bridge. Trauma Star/ EMS ■ Conducted Quality Assurance meetings with Lower Keys Medical Center and Baptist Health, including Fisherman's and Mariners hospitals. ■ Quality Assurance/Quality Management team reviewed 100% of patient care reports,to include clerical errors, paramedic follow up and feedback to improve and enhance patient care documentation. ■ Two (2) Paramedics completed MCFR's comprehensive Paramedic Preceptor Program. ■ Completed application for EMS state grant funding with the Department of Health to enhance Emergency Medical Services for our residents and visitors. ■ Attended the Keys Health Ready Coalition meeting. KHRC serves as a multi-agency coordination group that focuses on health-related emergency preparedness that strengthens the health system's ability to respond to emergencies and disasters in Monroe County. ■ Conducted a meeting with Baptist Stroke Program coordinators to expand MCFR's feedback data on stroke patient outcomes. These outcomes will meet the QA team's strategic goal to improve patient care and delivery by providing patient outcomes to the Crew members that initiated the care and stroke alert. 2651 Monthly Activity Report January 2024 Page 2 of 3 ■ Three (3) personnel attended the quarterly EMS state meetings,the EMS Chiefs meeting, Critical Care Committee meetings, and EMS advisory council meetings. ■ Conducted Flight team monthly meeting which included Quality Assurance and documentation guidelines/feedback, upcoming training, and communications. ■ Taught a First Aid / CPR/ Stop the bleed course to thirty (30) Safety Patrol children at Stanley Switlik Elementary. ■ Initiated Licensing process for MCFR to teach American Red Cross training courses, this will expand our American Heart Association training to include Red Cross certifications. ■ Participated in University of Miami Gordon Center for Research and Educations Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education ■ CAPCE Site review for re-accreditation. CAPCE is an accrediting body charged with the review and accreditation of EMS continuing education (CE) programs. Key West International Airport/Fire Station 7 ■ Attended each of the EYW Operations Meetings, Construction Meetings,Airlines Meeting and Airport Tenant Meeting. ■ Completed the annual FAA Safety Inspection for EYW airfield, fueling practices, and ARFF (equipment/records /training/ personnel). ■ Attended Florida Keys Marathon International Airport annual AEP Review and Tabletop Exercise. ■ Completed fire extinguisher training for airport fueling personnel. ■ Attended the annual EYW SIDA Badge Signatory Training. ■ Attended the initial 2025 NAS Airshow Planning Meeting. ■ Began daily inspection of wheeled B:C extinguishers at each aircraft gate. Of the total applications, 174 were deemed to have met the minimum requirements for the positions to which they applied, 14 did not qualify, and 1 withdrew their application. Of our total applications, 26 are reapplying and 165 are new applicants. A significant amount of firefighter applications this month. • Of our 43 openings: 18 were closed/filled, 6 positions were re-posted from a previous posting, 11 were new postings, and 32 remained posted.
