RESOLUTION NO. 130-1996
A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS GRANTING THE DESIGNATION OF
"HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL LANDMARK" TO THE
HOWARD HODGMAN HOUSE, LOCATED AT 469 S. CONCH
AVE, CONCH KEY. THE PROPERTY IS DESCRIBED AS
FOLLOWS: LOT 20, CONCH KEY, SECTION 14,
TOWNSHIP 65 SOUTH, RANGE 34 EAST,
TALLAHASSEE MERIDIAN, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA,
AND THE REAL ESTATE NUMBER IS
0038584-000000.
WHEREAS, The Howard Hodgman House, meets the criteria for
designation of a "Historical and Cultural Landmark" as specified
in Section 9.5-452 (c) of the Monroe County Code, Amended, in
that the

WHEREAS, the procedures for landmark designatioh se~forth

9.5-453
of
the Monroe
County
Code,
Amended,

have been
followed, in that:
1. The proposed designation was initiated by Thomas and Sandra
Lobaugh, the current owners of the Howard Hodgman House, in
an application to the Historic Florida Keys Preservation
Board; and

2.
The proposed

description of the

site and its
structures; and
3. The application established the basis for the Howard Hodgman
House designation under Code Section 9.5-452, and included
other evidence that supports the designation, as set forth on
the application which documents the historic, social, and
cultural significance of the Howard Hodgman House; and
4. The application has been reviewed by the Historic Florida
Keys Preservation Board, which recommends the Howard Hodgman
House for local historic designation, as evidenced in a
October 31, 1995 letter from the Board's Manager; and
5. The application has been reviewed by the Planning Staff, who
recommends the Howard Hodgdman House for landmark
designation, as stated in the staff report to the Monroe
County Planning Commission dated January 8, 1996; and
6. The Monroe County Planning Commission, during a regular
session held on January 24, 1996, has conducted a public
hearing on the proposed designation, reviewed the request
from Thomas and Sandra Lobaugh and the recommendations of the
Historic Florida Keys Preservation Board and the Planning
Department, and heard testimony from the public; and

7. The Planning Con:mission has voted at said public hearing to
recommend to the Monroe County Board of Commissioners that
the Board grant the designation of "Historical and Cultural
Landmark" to the Howard Hodgman House; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners has
considered the proposed designation and the recommendations of
the Historic Florida Keys Preservation Board, the Planning
Department, and the Planning Commission; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT:
The Howard Hodgman House located at 469 S. Conch Ave., Conch
Key is hereby designated as an historical and cultural Landmark,
as provided by Article VIII of the Monroe County Code, Amended.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the
