Approval to convert Temporary Part-Time Nutrition Site Assistant Position to Permanent Part-Time
Nutrition Site Assistant position. (Grant funded)
ITEM BACKGROUND:
It was necessary for the Nutrition Program to establish a Part-Time Site Assistant position at the Key
West Nutrition Site, which serves over 45 people per day. This person assists the Site Manager and
substitutes for the Manager when she is absent. This was initially established as a temporary 3-month
part-time position because it had not been included in the 2006 Older Americans' Act (OAA) Grant
Budget. The position is now included for funding in the 2007 Older Americans' Act (OAA) grant
budget. As such, we are requesting to change the position from Temporary to Permanent Status. This
is a grade level 3 part-time position with a starting salary of $11.88 per hour. The position is for 20-
hours per week and does not include health benefits. Because it is a grant position it is not Career
Service.

Agenda Item re: Approval to convert Temporary Part-Time Nutrition Site Assistant Position
to Pennanent Part-Time Nutrition Site Assistant Position. (Grant Funded)
This memorandum is in reference to changing an existing Temporary Part-Time Nutrition Site Assistant in the
Monroe County Nutrition Program to a Pennanent Part-Time Nutrition Site Assistant. The Site Assistant helps the
Nutrition Site Manager prepare and serve food, receives deliveries and checks to see if they are correct, cleans the
Site, assists the clients and carries out other duties. It is important to have this position at the Key West Nutrition
Site, which currently serves about 45 elder clients per day and prepares home-delivered meals for over ISO older
adults. Initially, the position was established as a temporary 3-month part-time position because it had not been
included in the 2006 Older Americans' Act (OAA) Grant Budget. The position is now in the 2007 Older
Americans' Act (OAA) grant budget. As such, we are requesting to change the position from Temporary to
Permanent Status. This is a grade level 3 part-time position with a starting salary of$11.88 per hour. The position
is for 20-hours per week and does not include health benefits. Because it is a grant position it is not Career Service.
Approval of a Pennanent Nutrition Site Assistant will assure that there is adequate help and staffing at the Key West
Nutrition Site, which is the largest and busiest location in the Nutrition Program. The Site Assistant also substitutes
when the Site Manager is absent and assures continuity of service to the elder Meal Program clients. The position is
budgeted in the current 2007 Older Americans' Act Grant (OAA) and 10% County match that funds the Nutrition
Program.
The Nutrition Program serves elders over 60 years of age by providing meal services, Nutrition Education, and
activities at Four Nutrition Sites throughout Monroe County. It also provides home-delivered meals to people over
60 who are qualified as medically needy.
