AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to reject proposals and to re -advertise for the Temporary
Ferry Service between City of Marathon and Pigeon Key.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Old Seven Mile Bridge is in need of repairs and is scheduled to be
closed by FDOT. Temporary ferry service will be needed to service Pigeon Key.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: BOCC granted approval to advertise for a request for
proposals for temporary ferry service at December 20, 2006 meeting (item 0-4).
BOCC also granted approval by Resolution to enter into a Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) with
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to provide $750,000 to fund a temporary ferry service
from the City of Marathon to Pigeon Key at the February 21, 2007 meeting (item D 18).
At the BOCC Workshop on March 7, 2007, staff recommended to reject bids and re -advertise, due to
bid irregularities from all respondents. Also, we will meet with the Pigeon Key Foundation to change
the scope of services to reduce the cost of the services.
