ITEM BACKGROUND: Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Law Enforcement Memorial Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: N/A INSURANCE REQUIRED: No CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: N/A STAFF RECOMMENDATION: N/A DOCUMENTATION: LE Memorial Proclamation 2024 (003).pdf FINANCIAL IMPACT: N/A 16 LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL WEEK BY HOLLY MERRILL RASCHEIN, MAYOR OF MONROE COUNTY A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, law enforcement officers steadfastly provide an extraordinary level of service for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, under often-difficult and dangerous circumstances; and WHEREAS, law enforcement officers and their loved ones must live with the possibility of life-threatening violence every day they are on the job; and WHEREAS, as a consequence of this danger, many law enforcement officers have made the supreme sacrifice for their communities; and WHEREAS, hundreds of courageous public safety officers lost their lives in the tragedies of September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS,law enforcement officers and grateful citizens pause every year to honor the memory of these officers and the officers who have lost their lives serving the citizens of Monroe County NOW, THEREFORE, I, Holly Merrill Raschein, Mayor of Monroe County, do hereby declare May 12thh— 18th, 2024 as LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL WEEK In the "Southernmost County of the Continental United States". I urge all citizens, residents and visitors of Monroe County to remember those law enforcement officers who fell holding the thin, blue line that stands between good and evil. I invite our community to attend the Law Enforcement Ceremony on Friday, May 17th at 5:00 p.m. at Bayview Park in Key West. WITNESS my hand and seal of Monroe County, Florida this day of April, 2023.
