Total Budget for FY 23/24: $286,482; Year to Date Expenditures and Encumbrances: $185,105; Remaining Balance: $101,377; Percentage of budget spent and/or encumbered year-to-date: 64% The County Extension Director/Family & Community Development Agent accomplished the following activities: • Alicia partnered with the City of Key West, Sustainability Department to hold a Facebook live field trip for residents to see what is going on in the community. We looked at the transportation initiatives, EV infrastructure, and local food sourcing with S.O.S. • Alicia presented a Community Voices, Informed Choices webinar for Extension agents to learn how to evaluate community development programs. • Alicia participated in the Southeast Climate Compact on the Climate Pollution Reduction Planning Grant and developed a regional Priority Climate Action Plan. The plan includes a regional greenhouse gas emissions inventory, projections, and reduction measures. The plan also considers how priority actions affect Low-Income Disadvantaged Communities (LIDAC) communities. You can check out the whole plan HERE or on the website https://southeastfloridaclimatecompact.orb/ • Alicia participated in project selection and grant development with Climate Compact partners to submit a Climate Pollution Reduction Implementation Grant which, if funded, would allow the region to develop pollution reduction programs and help residents reduce electric bills. • Alicia spoke on the radio about strategies to pay down credit card debt. The average American household owes $7,951 and at the end of 2023, Americans had over $1 trillion in credit card balances, a record high. 3049 The Florida Sea Grant Marine Extension Agent accomplished the following activities: • Shelly was trained by the LAKEWATCH coordinator and taught a new group at Duck Key how to collect total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and chlorophyll a. • Shelly assisted Florida Sea Grant leadership interview candidates for the Dean John A. Knauss Fellowship. This is a highly competitive Department of Commerce fellowship that places graduate students in Washington DC for one year in federal offices and within the legislature and frequently leads to employment in public service after completion. Shelly was a Knauss Fellow at NOAA Fisheries in 2009. • Shelly is co-author on an UF/IFAS Ask Edis document published on "The future of coral reefs relies on microbes: An overview of the coral microbiome and coral health." Phone (305) 289-6005 �u Monthly Activity t - Fire Rescue ■ Crew members from Station 8 attended the "SOS Foundation Field Day" at Bernstein Park, Stock Island providing fire prevention materials to those promoting physical activity and wellbeing for children. ■ Fire Station 9 on Big Coppitt Key hosted the Monroe County Fire Rescue Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the Big Coppitt community. ■ Fire Station 10 on Sugarloaf Key hosted the Sugarloaf Shores Property Owner's Association meeting. ■ Crew members from Station 10 attended the Sugarloaf School Safety Day event, Sugarloaf Key. ■ Crew members from Station 11 participated in the Keys to Be the Change Reading Program at the Sugarloaf Elementary School, on Sugarloaf Key. ■ Crew members from Station 13 attended the Reading event at the Big Pine Library. ■ Fire Station 22 in Tavernier hosted the Harbor 92 Condominium Association meeting. Trauma Star/ EMS ■ Presented Phoenix awards to eight (8) personnel from the Boy Scouts of America club on Cudjoe Key for saving someone who experienced sudden cardiac arrest. ■ Received grant funding from CommHIT Rural Public Health Workforce Training Network for $12,800 to cover the tuition for eight (8) flight medics to attend a (3) month Critical Care Transport Course at the University of Florida in August 2024. ■ Conducted Quality Assurance meetings with Lower Keys Medical Center and Baptist Health (Fisherman's/Mariners) hospitals. ■ Completed an American Red Cross instructor bridging program for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support CPR, and First Aid/CPR/AED courses to complete recertifications for MCFR personnel. ■ Three (3) QA team personnel completed a Certified Ambulance Documentation Specialist Course by the National Academy of Ambulance Compliance. ■ Revised/updated MCFR Controlled Substance Policy. ■ Two (2) personnel completed paramedic training and received a Florida Paramedic license, both have begun MCFR's comprehensive provisional paramedic program. ■ Attended planning meetings for Trauma Star legal name change and billing changes for new aircraft. ■ Eight (8) personnel completed a recertification course for Basic Life Support CPR. 3052 Monthly Activity Report March 2024 Page 2 of 3 ■ Completed and submitted the Medicare Ground CMS Data Collection requirement project. MCFR was required to gather our ground ambulance comprehensive data and report it to Medicare. Our data collection period was from October 01, 2022,through September 30, 2023. ■ Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Management (QM) team reviewed 100% of patient care reports to improve our patient care delivery and documentation. ■ Conducted Flight team monthly meeting which included Quality Assurance and documentation guidelines/feedback, upcoming trainings, communications. ■ Attended Keys Health Ready Coalition meeting, KHRC serves as a multi-agency coordination group that focuses on health-related emergency preparedness that strengthens the health system's ability to respond to emergencies and disasters. ■ Attended Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) network meeting to develop a response and treatment plan to bridge the gap of services to manage opioid crisis in Monroe County utilizing grant funding options. Key West International Airport/ Fire Station 7 ■ Attended each of the EYW Operations Meetings, Construction Meetings,Airlines Meeting and Airport Tenant Meeting. ■ Completed budget meetings for upcoming fiscal year. ■ Attended Signature FBO Terminal Grand Opening at the Key West International Airport. ■ Three (3) ARFF firefighters traveled to College Station, Texas and attended a three-day training class and live fire scenarios for familiarity and use of Fluorine Free Foam (F3). Fire/EMS Training ■ Conducted facility and live fire training for forty-five (45) firefighters from Stations 22, 18, 17, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8 and 7. This is an ISO requirement for firefighters and the training provided maintains the state fire certifications for personnel. ■ Provided new hire training for two (2) firefighters, consisting of 260 hours of hands-on fire skills and activities required by ISO. ■ Facilitated Islamorada Fire Rescue with the use of our training facility for their five (5) new hire training and assisted their members with live burns. ■ Facilitated Key Largo Fire Department for 3 days of live fire training for twenty-five (25) firefighters and their officers. ■ Delivered a "Company Officer" course for six (6) firefighters. This course provides 45-hours of training that is designed to assist aspiring fire officers in solving and managing various problems and situations they will encounter in today's ever-changing fire service. This course is part of the Fire Officer 1 series. ■ Delivered an "Apparatus Operations" class for twenty (20) firefighters. This is a 45-hour class that covers the laws, rules, and driving techniques for Emergency vehicles,with 2 days of hands-on training including hydraulics, pump operations, master streams, and water supplies. 3053 Monthly Activity Report March 2024 Page 3 of 3 ■ Delivered a "Live Fire Training Instructor's (LFTI)" course taught by two (2) MCFR Instructors and one (1) Instructor from the City of Naples. Ten (10) students from MCFR and neighboring departments completed the program. LFTI is a 40-hour course that delivers comprehensive live fire training within a safe and controlled environment in accordance with NFPA. ■ Successfully conducted seven (7) probationary firefighters' 9-month evaluations. The 9- month evaluation consists of a written SOP test and comprehensive hands-on fire ground skills. Fire Marshal's Office ■ Attended 3 community events and provided fire prevention outreach information, including the Easter Egg Hunt on Big Coppitt Key,which was well attended. ■ Fulfilled 7 public records requests for fire and incident reports. ■ Conducted Plans Reviews and Inspections for New Construction and Renovation Permits for the building departments in Ocean Reef,the Upper Keys, Middle Keys, and the Lower Keys. ■ Provided annual Fire and Life Safety inspections to commercial properties. ■ Conducted Vacation Rental Fire and Life Safety inspections for residential properties. ■ Attended the monthly Development Review Committee meeting held by the Planning Department and provided four letters of coordination for new projects. 3054 Employee Services- March, 2024 Employee Benefits 1.
