AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to reject all bids received for the Request for Proposals
(RFP) for the construction of employee housing on Big Pine Key and cancel the project.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The BOCC gave approval to advertise an RFP for the construction of employee housing on 4 County-
owned lots on Big Pine Key in November 2022. A budget of$1 million was allocated to this project.
Staff issued an RFP and four (4)bids were received in October 2023. Bids received were higher than
anticipated and staff required time to identify additional budget. During this same time period, the
County Administrator's office was working on the possible purchase and construction of employee
housing in Key Largo. It was determined to be in the County's best interest to cancel this project and re-
allocate the funding from the Big Pine housing project to the employee housing project in Key Largo.
Staff is requesting approval to reject all bids and cancel the project.
