AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval by BOCC to add one (1) FTE (full time equivalent)
Logistics Assistant position in the Fiscal Year 2024 operating budget for Monroe County Fire Rescue,
by converting an existing temporary position.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The department requires the addition of a Logistics Assistant position. The addition will provide a
greater consistency in service, administrative functions and staff responsibilities, enabling Fire Rescue
to complete its mission. For the last two (2)years, the department has utilized light duty personnel when
available and a temporary staff member in order to meet the demands for our personnel, equipment and
stations. This position's responsibilities include ordering, receiving,processing and delivery of
firefighting and EMS supplies to our fire stations from Key West to Tavernier.

JOB SUMMARY
The primaryfunction of this position isto maintain and perform dailyfunctions of the Fire Rescue
warehouse, including ordering, receiving, storing, and dispensing goods. May also arrange repair
of fire station facilities, enter invoices and track purchase requisitions, and monitors expenses as
required. Delivery of fire and rescue equipment to fire stations as needed. On call 24 hours
pending disasters. Work is performed under the guidance of the Logistics Supervisor, under the
general supervision of the Fire Chief.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Unpacks and checks incoming shipments, verifies that the correct types and quantities of
items were received, and inspects the goods to ensure their quality.
• After examining the order, routes, stocks or stores the items in their appropriate locations,
rotates stock and updates inventory.
• Fills station orders from stock, and updates inventory as orders are filled. Picks up and
delivers supplies, equipment to the fire stations as needed.
• Audit and maintain accurate asset inventory data of all fire rescue equipment
• Processing and paying all fire rescue related invoices.
• Reports to Logistics Supervisor any problems, discrepancies, or damaged goods, and assists
as necessary in resolution.
• Manages organization and cleanliness of stockrooms and other work/storage areas;assures
security of items stored in or transported to/from storage area; assists Logistics Supervisor
with maintaining inventory counts; coordinates proper disposal of medications and
biohazardous waste.
• Fills station orders from stock, and updates inventory as orders are filled.
• Picks up and delivers supplies, equipment, and vehicles to the fire stations as needed.

• Provides equipment and supplies inventory to ensure fire and rescue vehicles are stocked
and maintained to departmental standards, including specialty teams.
• Manages inventory levels, ordering, receiving, and security of controlled substances. When
required, releases-controlled substances to battalion chiefs, or other designated/approved
transporters,for delivery to fire rescue units.
• Manages secure return of controlled substance medications for destruction of outdated
and/or damaged controlled substances.
• Prepares items for repair or return shipment and maintains records of all outgoing
shipments.
• Duties include packaging and preparation of labels and shipping documents; and upon
return, unpacking,verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging
for the transportation and delivery of products.
• In the absence of the Logistics Supervisor: arranges repair of fire station facilities;enters and
tracks purchase requisitions and field purchase orders, processes payments to vendors, and
monitors expenses as required.
• Operates a personal computer, utility truck,copier,fax machine, calculator,telephone,two-
way radio, or other equipment; learns and uses various computer programs.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with course work emphasis in Fire
Science, Business or Administration, or closely related field; preferred. 1 year's minimum of prior
related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Possession of a valid, appropriate Florida Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of EMS and Fire Service supplies and equipment.
• Strong interpersonal and computer skills.
• Ability to have guidelines for work but determine the approach for doing the work.
• Ability to perform work that necessitates some specialized knowledge of clerical or
trades-based tasks. Some of the typical responsibilities include gathering, formatting, or
visually analyzing data OR operating construction or warehouse equipment(moving vans,
dump trucks, front-end loaders).
• Ability to make decisions that govern own activities as well as others.
• Ability to work with less than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same
activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50
pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or
crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing
exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
• Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like,
using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
• Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
