Monroe County Planning & Environmental Resources
Attn: Devin Tolpin
Dear Mr. Tolpin,
I am writing to you to express my interest in serving on the Monroe County Historic Preservation
Commission. I believe I would be a good fit for the role because of my personal background and work
experience in the Keys.
After moving to the Keys in 2013, 1 worked for D'Asign Source for four years, initially as an intern and
shortly thereafter as a licensed architect. To gain more experience in the commercial sector, I transitioned
to K2M Design as a licensed architect for another four years. During my time with these firms, I gained
enough experience to start my own architectural design firm, Sandbar Design Studio, which has been an
active business in the Florida Keys for a little over three years.
As an architect, I have worked on many historic preservation projects, most of which have gone through the
Historic Architectural Review Commission in Key West and were subsequently completed. Designing in this
environment has generated a respect and sensitivity to the history of Monroe County as a whole. I believe
the fabric of our community lies not just in our new construction, but also in our historic homes and
buildings. The protection of historic structures maintains the heritage and beauty of the Keys.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my son, Carter, and our dog, Fred, at our home on Big Pine
Key or out in our active community. We enjoy being able to spend time on the water and explore all that
Monroe County has to offer us.
It would be a great pleasure to be involved with a board that shares this passion of mine, and I hope to be
considered for any open position.
Thank you,
Erica Poole, RA.
