AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to transfer title of 2013 Horton Ambulance chassis
(ambulance box removed) to ETR, LLC, and authorize the Fire Chief to execute all necessary
documentation on behalf of the County to complete the transfer.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
On January 31, 2024, the BOG approved the purchase of an Ambulance Type I Chevrolet 6500 with
options to include a remounted modular ambulance box from ETR, LLC (ETR). The MCFR provided a
2013 Horton Ambulance(County ID 9971 &VIN: 1HTMYSKLODH403449) to ETR to remove,
recondition and remount the existing ambulance box onto the new chassis of the Chevrolet 6500, and
received the remounted Ambulance in June 2024. The old inoperable chassis from the 2013 Horton
Ambulance is currently being stored with ETR. Continued storage will result in the accrual of storage
fees.
On July 17, 2024, the BOCC authorized the Clerk's Office to dispose of items that were declared to be
surplus, including the 2013 Horton Ambulance (VIN 1HTMYSKLODH403449). Pursuant to the
Monroe County Purchasing Policy and Section 274.06, Fla. Stat., the BOCC may dispose of items
valued at less than $5,000.00 in the most cost-efficient and cost-effective means as determined by the
BOCC. ETR has agreed to accept what remains of the 2013 Horton Ambulance for whatever scrap
value it may have, and will waive the towing and storage charges in return for title to the vehicle. In
accordance law and policy, the department has confirmed with an automotive dealer that the current
value of the inoperable 2013 Horton Ambulance chassis (minus the ambulance box) is $500 or less.
Consequently, the department would like to transfer title of the 2013 Horton Ambulance chassis to ETR
LLC for final disposal, as this constitutes the most cost-efficient and cost-effective means of disposing
of the inoperable chassis.
