ITEM BACKGROUND: Mayor Pro Tem Lincoln will be installed as President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) in June 2025, making her the first Monroe County Commissioner to ever serve as FAC President. During her installation ceremony at the Florida Association of County's annual conference in Orlando, she will be gifting commemorative items that promote Monroe County as a tourist destination, including 750 challenge coins and 350 customized tea towels. The item seeks the approval of a resolution authorizing the expenditure of up to $8500 in ad valorem funds for the purchase of the commemorative items specified above. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: N/A INSURANCE REQUIRED: No CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: N/A STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approval DOCUMENTATION: Resolution to fund challenge coins and tea towels commemorating MPT Lincolns installation as FAC prez.pdf 3012 FINANCIAL IMPACT: $8500 in county tax dollars from the general fund 3013 RESOLUTION NO. -2025 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA TO AUTHORIZE THE EXPENDITURE OF UP TO EIGHT THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($8,500.00) IN AD VALOREM FUNDS TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF 750 CHALLENGE COINS AND 350 TEA TOWELS PROMOTING MONROE COUNTY AS PART OF THE INSTALLATION CEREMONY OF MAYOR PRO TEM MICHELLE LINCOLN AS PRESIDENT OF THE FLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES ON JLTNE 26, 2025 IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, Monroe County Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem Michelle Lincoln will be sworn in as President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC President) on June 26, 2025 in Orlando, Florida; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Lincoln will be the first Monroe County Commissioner ever to serve as FAC President; and WHEREAS, 750 challenge coins and 350 tea towels commemorating Mayor Pro Tem Lincoln's election as FAC President will be purchased and distributed during her installation ceremony along with other items promoting Monroe County as tourist destination; and WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners hereby finds that the challenge coins and tea towels, which promote Monroe County to potential visitors, serve valid County and public purposes sufficient to warrant payment with ad valorem tax dollars held in the general fund. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT: l. The recitals set forth above are incorporated by reference herein as factual findings of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Monroe County, Florida. 2. The BOCC hereby authorizes the expenditure of up to Eight thousand five hundred dollars $8,500.00 in County tax dollars from the general fund to purchase 750 challenge coins and 350 tea towels for distribution at the installation dinner of Mayor Pro Tem Michelle Lincoln as President of the Florida Association of Counties on June 26, 2025 in Orlando, Florida. 3. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
