ITEM BACKGROUND:
Monroe County and communities across the United States acknowledge National Public Health Week
as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to
improve our nation.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Honored the request to declare the first full week of April 2024 as National Public Health Week.

Na?onal Public Health Week
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County works to protect, promote and
improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts;
and
WHEREAS, Na?onal Public Health Week is an opportunity for communi?es across the United States
to reflect on the contribu?ons of public health and highlight issues such as disease control,
environmental concerns, and preventable chronic diseases; and
WHEREAS,the recent release of Monroe County's Community Health Assessment and the Community
Health Improvement Plan revealed our community's priori?es to be (1)Access to Care, (2) Substance
Abuse and Mental Health,and (3) Community Safety,which includes water safety, human trafficking,
and bicycle and pedestrian safety.
NOW,THEREFORE, I Jim Scholl, Mayor of Monroe County, do hereby proclaim April 7 — 13, 2025 as
Na?onal Public Health Week, reaffirming Monroe County's commitment to recognizing the
contribu?ons of public health and highlight issues that are important to improve our na?on.
