A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVING THE
RECEIPT OF A DONATION BY PUBLIX TO PROMOTE
RECYCLING.
WHEREAS, Monroe County Solid Waste and Recycling conducted an initiative to
promote recycling in July 2025, entitled Plastics-Free July Initiative, with the objective of
encouraging people to use reusable items rather than disposable plastics; and
WHEREAS,Publix, in support of the Plastics-Free July Initiative, donated two (2)Publix
one hundred dollar ($100) gift cards to the County, to be used in support of recycling initiatives;
and
WHEREAS,in order to continue to carry out similar recycling initiatives, Monroe
County Solid Waste and Recycling wishes to utilize said gift cards to purchase items that
promote recycling and reuse, so as to minimize the amount of solid waste in the County that
must be disposed of at high cost.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The Board hereby accepts the donation in the amount of $200.00 in Publix gift
cards submitted by Publix to Monroe County.
Section 2. The Board hereby directs that Solid Waste and Recycling utilize said Publix gift
cards to fund the purchase of items from Publix to support recycling and composting initiatives
through community events and education within Monroe County. Items to be purchased shall
include, but are not limited to reuseable shopping bags, reusable water bottles, and composting
items.
Section 3. Such purchases with the Publix gift cards shall be documented via the retention of
receipts, said receipts being made available for audit.
