This authority supports the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy by improving the safety, capacity, and capabilities of rural and volunteer local cooperators (fire departments and Rangeland Fire Protection Associations) that protect remote communities and natural resources and play a substantial cooperative role in the suppression of wildland fires. Bureaus and offices must complete the following actions: • Develop supplemental policy or adhere to existing policy to ensure equipment is transferred based on sound evaluation and strategic priorities. Equipment transfers must be awarded strategically to enhance collaborative wildland fire efforts. • Coordinate equipment transfers with bureau property managers. • Record equipment transfers through retirement transaction within the Financial Business and Management System. • Use the appropriate disposal reason code, accounting for Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST)-relevant and non-FAST-relevant equipment.
