A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE MONROE COUNTY PARKS AND BEACHES TEEN CLUB AS A COUNTY-APPROVED RECREATIONAL GROUP; PROVIDING THAT THE CLUB SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED A COMMITTEE PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 2, SECTION,ARTICLE VIII. WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) finds that the creation of a teen club to encourage teen participation and engagement with the Parks and Beaches Department will benefit local youth; WHEREAS,the Monroe County Parks and Beaches Department seeks to establish a volunteer Teen Club (the "Club") to provide structured opportunities for youth engagement in county recreational programs; WHEREAS,the Club will consist of volunteer members that convene at least once per month, either virtually via Zoom or in person, for a minimum duration of one hour per meeting; WHEREAS, the Club is intended to promote meaningful engagement between local teens and Parks and Beaches staff, fostering communication, collaboration, and shared ideas related to parks and beach programs and initiatives; WHEREAS, volunteer participation in the Club will provide teens with opportunities to earn community service hours in support of civic involvement and personal development; WHEREAS,the collaboration between teens and Parks and Beaches professionals will help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages idea- sharing, and positive youth development; WHEREAS, collaborating with local teens aims to inspire and develop new recreational programs tailored to their interests and needs; WHEREAS, this teen program inspires hope and empowers the youth of our community to recognize their potential, motivating them to become positive role models and future leaders; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY: Page 1 of 2 Section 1: Monroe County hereby acknowledges the creation of the Club to encourage teen participation and engagement with the Parks and Beaches staff to benefit local youth. Section 2: Parks and Beaches staff may recruit, train, or accept any regular- service volunteer and/or occasional-service volunteers to participate in the Club, without receiving monetary or material compensation, subject to 125.9501-125.9506. Section 3: The Club shall not be considered a County Committee pursuant to Chapter 2, Section, Article VIII, of the Monroe County Code, shall not have any decision-making authority, and shall not be responsible for making any recommendations to the BOCC or the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Section 4: The Parks and Beaches Department shall be responsible for administering the Club and may dissolve the Club at any time without resolution by the BOCC. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
