AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Mayor's Proclamation designating May 6th as "Community
Foundation of the Florida Keys Day".
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, established on May 6,
1996, has played a vital role in strengthening the Florida Keys through philanthropy, grantmaking,
and community partnerships. Since its founding, the organization has supported a wide range of
initiatives benefiting education, the environment, health services, and local nonprofits throughout
Monroe County. Designating May 61h as "Community Foundation of the Florida Keys Day"
recognizes the Foundation's enduring commitment to enhancing quality of life and fostering a culture
of giving across the Keys.

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MAY 6TH AS
"COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE FLORIDA KEYS DAY"
WHEREAS,the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys was established on May 6, 1996,by
a group of concerned citizens with a founding mission to make Key West and the Florida Keys a
better place to live now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, the Community Foundation seeks to achieve its mission by establishing long-term
and permanent funds to invest in the perpetual well-being of our unique island community; and
WHEREAS,the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys has, for nearly three decades, served
as a trusted steward of charitable resources, partnering with donors, nonprofits, and community
partners to address local challenges and support initiatives that improve quality of life in the
Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the Community Foundation has helped individuals, families, businesses, and
seasonal visitors mobilize over $36 million dollars in charitable resources to date through
charitable funds, scholarships, nonprofit endowments, and community grants supporting
education, the arts, environmental conservation, health and human services, and disaster recovery
throughout Monroe County; and
WHEREAS,the Community Foundation has established regional councils in the Upper, Middle,
and Lower Keys to ensure that philanthropy remains local and benefits the communities that
donors know and care about most, and that grants reflect the distinct needs of each Keys
community; and
WHEREAS, the Foundation has played an indispensable role in disaster recovery efforts,
mobilizing donor resources to help Florida Keys residents and organizations rebuild and recover
in the aftermath of major storms, including Hurricanes Wilma, Irma, and Ian; and
WHEREAS, the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys embodies the spirit of civic
generosity and long-term community investment that defines the character of Monroe County, by
connecting people, resources, and needs through philanthropy, and uniting this community in
enduring common purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners wishes to honor the
extraordinary contributions of the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys and to recognize
the many founders,trustees,board members,donors,volunteers,nonprofit leaders,and community
partners whose dedication has made the Florida Keys a stronger, more generous, and more
connected place to live;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Monroe County Board of County
Commissioners that:
May 6th is hereby designated as "COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE FLORIDA KEYS
DAY" in Monroe County, Florida, in honor of the founding anniversary of the Community
Foundation of the Florida Keys. The Board calls upon all residents of Monroe County to recognize
the Foundation's lasting impact and to embrace the values of generosity, community stewardship,
compassionate giving, and civic engagement that it represents for the Community Foundation
of the Florida Keys has been, and remains,In Paradise for Good.
