Resolution 321-1996 Mayor Pro T em London RESOLUTION NO.3 21 -1996 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA. PROCLAIMING OCTOBER TO BE THE MONTH OF THE AMERICAS. WHEREAS, the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of the Lower Keys has requested that the month of October be declared the month of the Americas: and WHEREAS, the history of the State of Florida and a Hispanic nation first began in 1513 when Ponce de Leon discovered Florida and claimed it for Spain; and WHEREAS, Spanish heritage and Latin American ties were deeply rooted in Florida's past and present: and WHEREAS, there are currently over 1,000,000 citizens of Hispanic origin in Florida; and WHEREAS, Hispanic citizens from all walks of life and from throuJ#hout the .worl<;:L have contributed with work, culture and enterprise to the overall prosperity of Flori~: qrid ~ :::t: _, 7. rl WHEREAS, the State of Florida is called upon historically and geog~p"ica~ to ~ "the __ en N __ 0'\ crevelopment is ,-;greatly - -c ""- ~ ~ WHEREAS, it is important for all Floridians and visitors to be cognizant of tfie ma'riy past contributions and future presence of Florida's Hispanic community: NOW THEREFORE gateway to Latin America"; and WHEREAS, the expansion of Florida's economic and cultural enhanced through the support of Hispanic Floridians; and ~ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of October is hereby proclaimed as the Month of the Americas PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida. at a regular meeting of the Board held on the13th day of August, 1996.
