Director Christine Hurley County Administrator Alana Thurston Senior Human Resources Coordinator/EEO Officer 20 Years of Service Alana Thurston began her career with Monroe County on May 15, 2006, as an Employee Benefits Coordinator. In 2011, she transitioned into the role of Human Resources Coordinator and was later promoted to Senior Coordinator in 2022. She also serves as the Equal Employment Officer, where she plays a critical role in ensuring fairness, equity, and compliance in the workplace. Throughout her tenure, Alana has taken on a wide range of responsibilities. She coordinates both the Grievance Council and the Career Service Council, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to supporting organizational processes and employee relations. Alana's professional accomplishments extend beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Saint Leo University and serves on the board of the Society for Human Resource Management Florida Keys Chapter. She is also an active member of Key West Toastmasters, where she was elected Treasurer in 2016. Through her involvement, she has earned multiple recognitions, including the designation of Competent Communicator. In addition to her professional and civic involvement, Alana is active in her church and is known to break out in song during luncheons, just one more example of the many talents she brings to her community. Alana has consistently demonstrated a deep passion for human resources and a strong dedication to Monroe County. It is a privilege to have her as part of the team for nearly two decades.
