MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION
DECLARING MAY 17 —23, 2026 AS
Guidance/Care Center Week
WHEREAS, Monroe County takes great pride in recognizing agencies who strive to better the
lives of our residents through continuous dedication and commitment; and
WHEREAS, May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness,
reduce stigma, and support those affected by mental health conditions; and
WHEREAS, the Guidance/Care Center provides the full continuum of behavioral health care to
residents including a 24/7 hotline to mobile crisis response as well as community-based services
at schools,jails, and the regional juvenile detention facility; and
WHEREAS, the Guidance/Care Center continues to expand access to care through initiatives
such as supportive mental health housing at The Heron, an assisted living facility for adults
struggling with mental illness, an inpatient unit for Detox and Crisis Stabilization and the
Personal Grown Center Clubhouse for adults; and
WHEREAS, the Guidance/Care Center has helped thousands of Florida Keys residents over the
past 53 years with mental health and substance use issues by helping people cope and change, by
maintaining their family structure, and by helping residents find ways to contribute to the benefit
of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that May 17 through May 23, 2026
is hereby designated as
GUIDANCE/CARE CENTER WEEK
in Monroe County, Florida, and residents are encouraged to recognize and support mental health
services throughout the community.
