AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to install four streetlights at locations of Monroe County
School District bus stops in the Eden Pines subdivision of Big Pine Key. The annual cost of power is
approximately $171 per streetlight.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Staff has been working with School District personnel to evaluate bus stop
locations in Eden Pines subdivision on Big Pine Key. The four bus stop locations: intersection of
Cypress and Buttonwood Drives, Fern Ave. and Watson Blvd, Fern Ave. and Violet Drive and
Oleander and Buttonwood Drives are dark at certain times of the year. Staff proposes to install
streetlights on the utility poles in the vicinity of the bus stops to improve visibility. Keys Energy
Services will install the lights on poles and maintain them. Monroe County is responsible for paying
the electrical costs associated with the lights, which is approximately $171 per year for each light.
