Approval of request for expenditure of$500.00 from MCSO Law Enforcement Trust Fund
to Marathon High School Operation Graduation 2026.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff is authorized to seize real and personal property under the Florida Contraband Act. After
obtaining final judgment of seized property, the property is forfeited to the Sheriff and may be
disposed of in accordance with Florida Statute 932.7055. Proceeds from forfeited property shall be
deposited into a law enforcement trust fund that is established by the BOCC. Such proceeds and
interest earned therefrom shall be used for school resource officers, crime prevention, safe
neighborhood, drug abuse education and prevention programs, or for other law enforcement purposes
as outlined in § 932.7055. The funds may be expended upon request by the Sheriff to the BOCC,
accompanied by a written certification that the request complies with the statute. The Sheriff is
requesting $500.00 be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund to Marathon High School
Operation Graduation 2026. The funds will be used to cover expenses for the all-night event that
provides a safe, drug and alcohol-free celebration, to recognize the achievements of graduating seniors
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
The Sheriff has previously requested expenditures from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for various
community groups, functions and/or events geared toward crime prevention, safe neighborhood, drug
abuse education and prevention programs and other law enforcement purposes which were deemed
appropriate. In 2025, the BOCC approved the following requests: Item#2023-4059, Operation
Graduation MHS, BOCC Meeting Date: 6/18/25; Item#2023-4014, Law Enforcement Equipment,
BOCC Meeting Date: 5/21/25; Item#2023-3937, Youth Summer Camp, BOCC Meeting Date:
5/21/25; Item#2023-3704, Operation Graduation KWHS, BOCC Meeting Date: 3/25/25; Item#2023-
4711, First Responders 5k, BOCC Meeting Date: 11/12/25. On March 11, 2026, item#26-0465, Key
West High Operation Graduation was approved

Dear Mrs. Hurley:
I would like to request that the Commission authorize the following expenditures from
the Law Enforcement Trust Fund:
$ 500.00 Marathon High School Operation Graduation 2026: To help cover
expenses for the all-night event that provides a safe, drug, and alcohol-free celebration to
recognize the achievements of our graduating seniors.

I hereby certify that these expenditures are lawful pursuant to the Florida
Contraband Act. There will be no recurring expenses in the existing budget.
