RESOLUTION NO. 382 -1996
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE
JOE BALBONTIN.
WHEREAS, Joe Balbontin, a life-long resident of the City of Key West, has passed away at the
age of 59; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Balbontin, a one-time City Commissioner, was a well-known character in Key
West politics; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Balbontin was a respected member of the business community and owner of
Lower Keys Plumbing; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Balbontin hosted a television program on TCI Channel 5 known as "The World
According to Joe," which encouraged public discussion of many topics of interest to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Balbontin's sharp-witted, often controversial stances and aggressive political
style added to the wonderful and varied tapestry of Key West politics; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA
that:
Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and
mourning for the passing of the late Joe Balbontin and in recognition of his extensive dedication and
vast public service to the people of Key West and Monroe County, Florida.
