03/09/1989 Special 00 34 Special Meeting/Public Hearing Board of County Commissioners Thursday, March 9, 1989 Key West A Special Meeting/Public Hearing of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at 3:00 p.m. on the above date in Courtroom "B" of the Monroe County Courthouse Annex in Key West. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Wilhelmina Harvey, Commissioner Douglas Jones, Commissioner Eugene Lytton, and Commissioner John Stormont. Mayor Michael Puto arrived late. Also pre- sent were Diana Gene Collins, Deputy Clerk; Randy Ludacer, County Attorney; Tom Brown, County Administrator; County Staff; members of the Press and Radio; and the general public. Tom Brown, County Administrator, addressed the Board and requested permission to add an item to the Agenda, said item asking for approval to initiate an RFP for priva- tization of collection of garbage within the County. Motion was made by Commissioner Harvey and seconded by Commissioner Stormont to approve the addition to the Agenda for con- sideration. Motion carried unanimously. Motion was then made by Commissioner Harvey and seconded by Commissioner Jones to approve the request of the County Administrator to advertise an RFP for curbside collection within the County. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor Puto arrived and assumed the Chair. Peter Robinson, Vice President of Hazen and Sawyer, addressed the Board and made a presentation concerning the Final Report of the Monroe County Solid Waste Management Study. The following persons addressed the Board: Eileen Palmer and Derrick Palmer of W.H.E.L.K., Don McCurley of Recovery (Pyrolysis), Sven Linskold, John Albert and Bert Iver of Florida Disposal, Franklin Ostrander, George Kundtz, Jim Murphy, and Howard Burr of Agripost.
