A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of
County Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m. on the above
date in the Commission Chambers at 310 Fleming Street in
Key West. Present and answering to roll call were
Commissioner William Freeman, Commissioner Eugene Lytton,
Commissioner John Stormont, and Mayor Jerry Hernandez, Jr.
Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; Calvin Allen,
Assistant County Attorney; Tom Brown, County Administrator;
Michael Managan, Assistant County Administrator; members of
the Press and Radio; and the general public.
The meeting was held to discuss a request for
funding for the TASC Program - Treatment Alternatives to
Street Crimes.
Dr. Marshall Wolfe of the Lower Keys Mental Health
Clinic addressed the Board concerning the TASC Program.
Commissioner Mike Puto arrived at the meeting at
10:10 a.m. and took his seat.
Dr. Moldonado of the Mental Health Clinic discussed
the TASC Program and her views on its continuation.
Ray Long of the Department of Corrections addressed
the Board concerning the positive benefits of the program on
probationers processed through his office.
Betty Strike of the Salvation Army also favored
continuation of the program because of its assistance to the
misdemeanant probation program.
Motion was made by Commissioner Lytton and seconded
by Commissioner Stormont to authorize the funding of the
TASC Program in an amount not to exceed $25,000, to be
transferred from Contingency during the current fiscal year.
Roll call vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned.
