Key Colony Beach
A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of
County Commissioners convened at 5:00 p.m. on the above date
at the Key Colony Beach City Hall. Present and answering to
roll call were Commissioner Eugene Lytton, Commissioner
Michael Puto, Commissioner John Stormont, and Mayor Jerry
Hernandez, Jr. Absent from the meeting was Commissioner
William Freeman. Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk;
Tom Brown, County Administrator; Charles Aguero and Jim
Baker of the Municipal Services District; Dent Pierce,
Public Works Director; members of the Press and Radio; and
the general public.
Dent Pierce, Public Works Director, requested
authority to assist the City of Key West in trimming trees
in Peary Court for the upcoming Offshore Power Boat Race.
Motion was made by Commissioner Lytton and seconded by
Commissioner Puto to authorize the Public Works Department
to work with the City of Key West and assist them in
trimming trees in Peary Court for the Offshore Power Boat
Race. Motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Stormont discussed and requested that
written procedures be established for the clean-up activi-
ties of the Pollution Control Department and other depart-
ments of the Board. This matter was referred to the County
Administrator.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
A Public Hearing was held on a proposed Ordinance
establishing special assessments and service charges for
garbage collection rates for residential and commercial
collection service from January 1, 1988 through December 31,
1988; repealing all Ordinances in conflict with this
Ordinance; providing for an effective date. Proof of publi-
cation was entered into the record. Motion was made by
Commissioner Lytton and seconded by Commissioner Puto to
read by title only. Motion carried unanimously. Charles
Aguero, MSD Director, discussed the proposed rates which
would be $177.00 per annum for residential and an increase
of 8.15% on the commercial rates. Earl Cheal, James
McIlherny of Venture Out, Margaret pierce and Ted Carter
addressed the Board. Commissioner Stormont requested that
Hazen & Sawyer verify any increases in amounts paid to the
Franchisees and corresponding reductions to the County's
portion of franchise revenues and requested that his calcu-
lations concerning a shift of condominium users from resi-
dential to commercial be reviewed by MSD Staff and Hazen &
Sawyer, and that the Public Hearing be continued to
November 3rd. William Konrath and Ted Carter addressed the
Board. Motion was made by Commissioner Stormont and
seconded by Commissioner Puto to continue the Public Hearing
to November 3, 1987 at 5:00 p.m. Roll call vote was unani-
mous.
