A Workshop Meeting of the Monroe County Board of
County Commissioners convened on the above date in the
Commission Chambers at 310 Fleming street, Key West.
Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Alison
Fahrer, Commissioner William Freeman, Commissioner John
stormont, and Mayor Wilhelmina Harvey. Absent from the
meeting was Commissioner Ed Swift. Also present were Danny
L. Kolhage, Clerk; William Freeman, Sheriff; Judges Kirwan,
Lester, and Payne; Robert L. Brown, Supervisor of Elections;
Kermit Lewin, County Administrator; Lucien proby, County
Attorney; County Staff; members of the Press and Radio; and
the general public.
Mayor Harvey announced that the meeting was called
for the purpose of discussing the County's capital improve-
ments needs.
Judge Kirwan addressed the Board concerning pro-
posed capital improvements at Plantation Key and also the
request by the Judiciary for the consolidation of the courts
in the Annex Building in Key West upon the relocation of the
Sheriff's Office into the new Criminal Justice Building.
Robert L. Brown, Supervisor of Elections, discussed
his space needs at Plantation Key, Marathon and Key West.
Mr. Brown indicated that if he could proceed with the needed
improvements in Plantation Key at the Plantation Key
Government Center and the provision of space in the Marathon
Area, he would agree to compromise and take over the space
now occupied by Judge Payne and the Clerk's Office at 310
Fleming Street upon their removal to the Courthouse Annex
Building.
The Board then discussed the possible use of the
property at the corner of Southard and Whitehead Streets.
Mrs. Tommi Harper, realtor, addressed the Board concerning
the Berman property at the corner.
A general discussion then ensued concerning the
County's space requirements, the hiring of a Financial
Advisor to make recommendations concerning funding, and
other matters.
The Board adjourned at 11:4S a.m.
