RETIREMENT OF SARAH "TINY" CURRY FOR OVER 26 YEARS OF SERVICE TO
THE MONROE COUNTY NUTRITION PROGRAM
Sarah (known as "Tiny") was an employee with the Social Services Department, Nutrition
Program since 1977. She had responsibility for the Key West, Truman School dining site
that serves approximately 30 older adults over 60 each day at the facility, delivers 385 cold
meals per week and 30 hot meals per day.
Tiny actually started with the Nutrition Program at its inception, when it was created
through the Older Americans' Act in 1973. At that time it was not yet under the
jurisdiction of Monroe County. As such, she has been serving seniors in Monroe County
for 30 years. Even with her many responsibilities, Ms. Curry paid special attention to her
clients and was loved by them and her staff.
Whether she was in the field doing an intake on a new homebound client or organizing a
holiday meal at the Site, Tiny displayed joy and enthusiasm that was contagious. She was
extremely dedicated and a very hard worker. Not only was she effective at her job, she
brought comfort to her clients' lives, many of whom don't have much more than her
smiling face and warm words to get them through the day. Tiny is indeed a blessing that
the Key West clients and staff greatly enjoyed. She is "one of a kind" and can never really
be replaced!
