Public Hearing
Board of County Commissioners
January 9, 1980, Commission
Chambers, 2:00 P.M., Key West
A public hearing was held on the above date for the
purpose of presenting the County's plan for redevelopment of
Truman Annex (surplus Federal property) and to receive comments
and input from the public relative to said plan. Summaries of
the redeve.lopment plans were made available to the public prior
to the hearing.
Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner
Curt Blair, Commissioner Jerry Hernandez, Jr., Commissioner
Richard Kerr and Chairman Don Schloesser. Commissioner George

Dolezal was absent. Also present were Danny Kolhage and
Virginia Pinder, Deputy Clerks; Michael Cates, County Attorney;
Kermit Lewin, County Administrator; members of the Press and
Radio; and interested citizens.
Proof of publication was entered into the records.
Dr. A. David Greenberg, President of Recreation
Planning Associates and Project Coordinator of the proposed
project introduced the following members of his staff: Ed
Rosacke, David Peterson, Larry Cannon and Walter Stuart.
The Consultants then presented a slide presentation.
The following members of the public then addressed the Board:
Wright Langley, Director of Historic Key West Preservation
Board; Susan Gates, Managing Attorney, Legal Services of the
Florida Keys; Gill Ryder, member of Logic (Locally Organized
Group of Independent Citizens); Lawrence Gomez, citizen of the
City of Key West; Capt. Ed. Crusoe, Key West Bar Pilot and
President of Monroe County Port Authority Advisory Board;
Norman Lee, President Propeller Club of Key West; R. L. Blacizk
private citizen~. Dennis Anderson, Director Key West Redelop-
ment Agency; Chet Alexander, owner Alexander Marine and member
of Key West Propeller Club; Tom Pope, local architect and membe
of Save Our Waterfront; David Fascalo, private citizen; Richard
McGarry, member of Old Island Days Restoration Committee;
Marion Stevens, owner Artist Unlimited; and Paul Sher, member
Key West Redevolpment Agency Board.
The public was advised that all comments would be
considered prior to adoption of the plan. Motion was made by
Commissioner Blair and seconded by Commissioner Kerr to adjourn
the public hearing. Motion carried unanimously.

above date for the purpose of presenting the County's plan for
redevelopment of Truman Annex (surplus Federal property) and
to receive comments and input from the public relative to said

plan. Summaries of the redelopment plans were made available
to the public prior to the hearing.
Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner

Dolezal was absent. Also present were Ralph W. White, Clerk;
Michael Cates, County Attorney; Kermit Lewin, County Adminis-
trator; members of the Press and Radio; and interested citizens
Proof of publication was entered into the records.
The meeting was turned over to Dr. A. David Greenberg
President and Project Coordinator of Recreation Planning
Associates, the consultants on the project, who along with his
staff made a slide presentation.
Members of the public addressed the Board expressing
concern mostly regarding too much commercial aspects of the
plan and not enough light industry and private residential
space available for single family housing.
The Board agreed that all comments would be considere
and reviewed by the consultants. The plan would be revised
to some degree and presented at the next public hearing which
will be advertised.
There being no further business the public hearing
was adjourned.
