Resolution 089-2004 Commissioner Dixie M. Spehar RESOLunON NO. 089 2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE JOSE TOMAS SANCHEZ JR. M.D. WHEREAS, Jose Tomas Sanchez Jr. M.D. passed away on January 20, 2004, at the age of 71; and WHEREAS, Jose Tomas Sanchez Jr. was born on November 22, 1932, in Key West, where he was raised, like most Conch children, in a loving environment, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jose "Pepe" Sanchez Sr. and Lucille "Beba" Lacedonia Sanchez; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez graduated from Key West High School, attended the University of Alabama where he earned a degree in biology, graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1959; served a two-year tenure as a flight surgeon in the Air Force, and completed his ob-gyn residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta; and WHEREAS, in 1964 Dr. Sanchez returned to Key West, opened his practice and, titled as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, introduced many, many children to the world in Key West with the traditional slap, and served the medical needs of the'community for over 35 years; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez took an active role in profe$sional, community and civic associations, participated in the Alumni Associations of the University of Alabama, University of Miami, and Emory University; was a member of the Florida Obstetrics and Gynecologic Society, American Association of Medical Review Officers, American Medical Association Key West Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Quiet Birdmen and Arcturus Debate Club (where he is well remembered for his spirit); he served as chairman of the local Selective Service Board and was a board member for the Alliance for Aging Advisory Council, TIB Bank, and the Key West Yacht Club; served twice as director of the Monroe County Health Department and the medical director for the APBA races; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez is survived by his wife, Winona "Noni" Sanchez; sister, Sylvia Sanchez Carmosino (Nick); daughters, LuWin Sanchez and Diana Sanchet Vincent (Gary); son Jose T. Sanchez III; granddaughters, Katherine-Anne and WinDi Sanchez, as well as a large extended family; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1: Hereby memorializes the County's great appreciation for the service Dr. Jose Tomas Sanchez, Jr. gave to the community and for his love and concern for people, and expresses to the family the Commission's regret and deepest sympathy for the passing of the I~te Dr. Jose Tomas Sanchez Jr. Section 2: Hereby adopts this Resolution as a permantlmt record of the high esteem and respect in which Dr. Jose Thomas Sanchez, Jr. was held by his colleagues and by his community. />-31~<5<.
