Y. f \ .1' A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE KATHRYN HALL PRO BY. RESOLUTION NO. 064-1995 WHEREAS, Kathryn Hall Proby, former resident of Key West, has passed away, and WHEREAS, Mrs. Proby, who was born on November 20, 1921, in Clinton, Mississippi, attended Julliard School of Music in New York City in 1940, Louisiana State University in 1941 and 1942, and in 1948 she became the first person to earn a bachelor of arts degree in Musical Education at the University of Florida; and WHEREAS, in 1942, Kathryn Hall married Lucien C. Proby, Jr., former Monroe County Attorney, and together they had four children; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Proby and her family were residents of Miami from 1948 to 1979, during which time she sang with the Greater Miami Opera, served as president of the Miami Music Club in the 1950's, and in 1963 she bought the Village Post magazine and turned it into a chronicle of life in Coconut Grove; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Proby was the author of "Audubon in Florida," "Audubon in Louisiana," and "Mario Sanchez, Painter of Key West Memories," and until her untimely death she was completing a manuscript concerning Marjorie Kennan Rawlings' relationship with Zelma Cason which culminated in a famous lawsuit concerning the invasion of privacy in Florida; and WHEREAS, Mrs, Proby moved to Key West with her husband in 1980, and from 1990 until her death, they lived in Gainesville, Florida, near the Rawlings home; and WHEREAS, Kathryn Hall Proby was a renaissance woman who was vitally involved in her community and who touched the lives of everyone she came to know, and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the passing of the late Kathryn Hall Proby and in recognition of her extensive dedication and vast public service to the people of Key West and Monroe County, Florida, Section 2. The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this Resolution to Mrs, Proby's widower, Lucien C. Pro by, Jr., to express the Board's sorrow, PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 21st' day of February, 1995.
