WHEREAS, Charles J. Curry, Jr., a long-time resident of Key West, has passed
away at the age of 81, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Curry, who was born in Key West, Florida, was the son of the late
Charles and Ella Curry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Curry was a graduate of Key West High School and attended
the University of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Curry was employed as a surveyor in the building of the
Overseas Highway, both before and after the hurricane of 1935 destroyed the Flagler
railroad, and later he was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in the building
of a drainage system in the Lake Okeechobee area; and
WHEREAS, During World War II and until his retirement in 1972, he worked as a
civil engineer for the U. S. Navy at Boca Chica and in Key West, and after retiring from
federal civil service, he served in several engineering positions for Monroe County
and the City of Key West; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Curry was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church and a
former member and past president of the Key West Kiwanis and Jaycee clubs; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1.
The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret
and mourning for the passing of the late Charles Jefferson Curry, Jr. and in
recognition of his extensive dedication and vast public service to the people of Key
West and Monroe County, Florida.
Section 2.
The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this
Resolution to Mr. Curry's widow, Annice, to express the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 18th day of April,
1995.
