WHEREAS, George Kundtz, prominent advocate of economic interests, the
environment, and welfare of the people of the Florida Keys, has passed away at age
68; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kundtz, who worked for General Motors as a standards engineer
for thirty-five years, was recognized for excellence in public service by the Chairman
of General Motors; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kundtz served as township trustee in Chester, Ohio, for two
terms, and as an elected official, he was a fiscal conservative committed to a
rational plan for public spending based on environmental carrying capacity; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, Mr. Kundtz retired and moved to the Florida Keys and
became a citizen advocate: a passionate, determined voice on issues concerning
environmental protection and state law; and
WHEREAS, above all, Mr. Kundtz believed that government must follow its own
laws and that ordinary citizens must hold government accountable when it doesn't;
and
WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Florida Keys Citizens Association, Mr. Kundtz
argued that the Comprehensive land Use Plan of Monroe County, approved by
Monroe County and the State of Florida, does not meet the requirements of state
law, and when that petition is ruled on, in the near future, the outcome will have
lasting impacts on land use planning in the State of Florida; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1.
The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret
and mourning for the passing of the late George Kundtz and in recognition of his
extensive dedication and vast public service to the people of Monroe County,
Florida.
Section 2.
The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this
Resolution to Mr. Kundtz' widow, Minette, to express the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 18th day of April,
1995.
