RESOLUTION NO. 159 -1995
A RESOLUTION OF THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH
PERMITS PRICE FLEXIBILITY FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS
SERVICES.
WHEREASL the Florida legislature is planning to review the current
telecommunications services statute during the 1995 legislative session; and
WHEREAS, the state's present policy fails to allow consumers and
businesses to benefit from emerging competition that is dramatically changing
the way telecommunications services are provided; now, therefore,

legislation which permits local telephone companies price flexibilitt,for busf~ss- ~

type services and that the price of services rather than the earnings of the
companies should be emphasized. The Board also notes that this type of
regulation has been adopted in several other states and will provide the
incentive for local exchange companies to invest in the telecommunications
infrastructure that will provide a foundation for economic development in a
high-technology economy.

Section 2. The Board also supports the concept of universal service at
an affordable price and competition that is fair and equal.
Section 3. The County Clerk is hereby requested to forward a copy of
said resolution to our legislative representatives.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 19th day of
