01/07/1985 SpecialBB -- 177. Special Meeting Board of County Commissioners Monday, January 7, 1985 Key West A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners convened on the above date. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Alison Fahrer, Commissioner William Freeman, Commissioner Ed Swift, and Mayor Wilhelmina Harvey. Absent from the meeting was Commissioner John Stormont. Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; Calvin Allen, Assistant County Attorney; Robert Bensko, Grants Writer; members of the Press and Radio; and the general public. PUBLIC HEARINGS Mayor Harvey advised that this special meeting was called for Public Hearings on the Department of Community Affairs Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Programs. The first Public Hearing at 10:00 a.m, concerned Neighborhood and Commercial Revitalization Category in the Target Area of Marathon at The Rock. Mr. Robert Bensko, Grants Writer, addressed the Board and discussed the appli- cation. The following area residents spoke favorably con- cerning the project: Edmund Carty, Grayce Carty and Frank Sawyer. Motion was made by Commissioner Fahrer and seconded by Commissioner Freeman adopting the following Resolution authorizing the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem of Monroe County to execute and submit an application for United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Block Grant Funds to the State of Florida Department of Community Affairs for assistance in the implementation of Monroe County's Community Development Program for the Target Area of Marathon Beach Rock Neighborhood for a $650,000 project in the Neighborhood and Commercial Revitalization Category. Roll call vote was unanimous. RESOLUTION NO. 001-1985 See Res. Book No. 42 which is incorporated herein by reference. The second Public Hearing at 11:00 a.m. concerned the Housing Category in the Target Area of Key Largo at Hibiscus Park. Mr. Robert Bensko, Grants Writer, discussed the application. The following individuals discussed the project: Enos Mitchell, Grayce Carty, Lawrence Johnson, Beverly Johnson (who read a statement of support), and Robert Woods. Motion was made by Commissioner Fahrer and seconded by Commissioner Freeman to adopt the following Resolution authorizing the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem of Monroe County to execute and submit an application for United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Funds to the State of Florida Department of Community Affairs for assistance in the implementation of Monroe County's Community Development Program for the Target Area of Hibiscus Park for $650,000 in the Housing Category.
