Regular Meeting
Board of County Commissioners
Friday, February 15, 1985
Key West
A special meeting of the Board of County
Commissioners convened on the above date. Present and
answering to roll call were Commissioner Alison Fahrer,
Commissioner William Freeman, Commissioner John Stormont,
Commissioner Ed Swift, and Mayor Wilhelmina Harvey. Also
present were Kermit Lewin, County Administrator; Rosalie L.
Simmons, Deputy Clerk; Sheri Smallwood, Assistant County
Attorney; Jeffrey Doyle, Director of Planning and Zoning;
members of the Press, Radio and Television; and the general
public.
All stood for the Invocation and Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag.
Mayor Harvey advised the audience that this meeting
was being held in order to hear the feelings of the public
with regard to the proposed Land Use Plan. She requested
that those persons wishing to speak record their names with
the Deputy Clerk and advised that their speeches would be
limited to two minutes.
Mayor Harvey read Resolution No. 054-1985 to the
audience. She also reported on a letter from Dr. James
Nicholas regarding his meeting with Dr. DeGrove.
Commissioner Swift informed the audience about his trip to
Tallahassee concerning the Principles Guiding Development.
The following persons spoke in opposition to the
proposed Land Use Plan: Kieran Mahoney, Vice President of
the Sugarloaf Property Owners Association; Herbert Pontin;
Humberto Jimenez of Tavernier; Reverend C. H. Ketchum of Key
West; Al Damron of Big Pine Key; Bill Paulson of Cudjoe
Gardens; Celia Weintraub of Key West; Elma Carroll of New
York; Veleta LeGate of Key Largo; Betty Bullock; B. G.
Carter of Key West; Reverend Young of Big Pine Key; Frank
Palmer of Key Largo.
Each Commissioner then spoke briefly to the
audience.
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned.
