Special Meeting
Board of County Commissioners
Thursday, May 16, 1985
Key West
A special meeting of the Board of County
Commissioners convened on ,the above date. Present and
answering to roll call were Commissioner Alison Fahrer,
Commissioner William Freem',an, Commissioner John Stormont,
and Mayor Wilhelmina Harvey. Absent from the meeting was
Commissioner Ed Swift. A Vso present were Danny L. Kolhage,
Clerk; Kermit Lewin, County Administrator; Lucien Proby,
County Attorney; members of the Press and Radio; and the
general public.
All stood for the. Invocation and Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag.
Mr. John Mercer, ;Real Estate Broker, and Mr.
Leonard Chetkin, owner of'property located at the corner of
Duval and Eaton Streets in Key West, addressed the Board
concerning a proposal for;the County to purchase or
lease/purchase the property referred to as "Carpet and
Casual Property." The Board proceeded to address the posi-
tive and negative aspects'!of such a purchase. The Board
took no action, pending the receipt of further information
from County staff as to the feasibility of the use of that
property for governmental purposes and requested that County
Administrator Lewin prepare a list of positive and negative
aspects of the proposed offer.
Mr. John Mercer and Colonel Pete Knopp addressed
the Board concerning a proposed subsidized housing project
to be located on Stock Island. No action was taken.
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned.
